Alcoholism and the God “Thing”

Listen to the Podcast - How God Cures Alcoholism

First, I love the Lord. He’s dragged me from the darkness of my alcoholism and transformed me to the core.

And…

I sincerely believe that Alcoholics in Recovery must ACT.

You can’t sit in your Laz-Boy and ponder God’s plan for your life.
Guess what - 80% of God’s Plan for your life is known!

- He had plans to prosper you
- He has plan for an abundant life
- He wants you to be the light of the world
- He wants you to be the salt of the earth
- He wants you to demonstrate his love to a hurting world

The Bible is chock-full of God’s explicit plan for your life. Don’t duck responsibility by delaying your recovery because you don’t know God’s plan.

Recovery for an Alcoholic is accomplished THROUGH action.

Get to work on the 80% that is known - and the other 20% will be revealed to you.

And if you are a coach, sponsor, or loved one supporting an alcoholic - please, please, please -

“Don’t dish out hollow God Has a Plan cliches without reminding the person you care about that they have work to do now. God is there for them now. God has a blueprint ready for their courageous action now.”

Brothers and sisters - get it done.

Get Real and Get Well

Alcoholism Treatment - Intervention

Excellent site that I found today.
I love it because it points out the need for Family members to get out of the way of an alcoholic. Bringing alcohol, helping throw pity parties, rescuing from bad situations only prolongs the misery -

1. Stop all “rescue missions.” Family members often try to protect
an alcoholic from the results of his behavior by making excuses to others about
his alcoholism and by getting him out of drug-related jams. It is important
to stop all such rescue attempts immediately, so that the alcoholic will fully
experience the harmful effects of his use-and thereby become more motivated
to stop.

Alcoholism as Illness - Give me a break!

I came across another “Alcoholism as illness” post that regurgitates that same old tired “recovery rant”. I do believe that alcoholism is an illness - of both body and “Soul”. Although you can dry out an alcoholic they will go back to drinking unless you deal with the illness of the soul. - Believe me, I’ve had alcohol cravings long (2 years) after the alcohol was out of my system. I am only able to stay sober because I am fighting the “craving for escape” in my heart. - Stay tuned.

Research shows that alcohol treatment programmes work. Experts in the field of alcohol addiction treatment spend many years training in order to provide the services and help that problem drinkers need to beat their illness, including:

* a period (typically 2 weeks) of medically supervised detoxification to clear all alcohol from the system;
* medication to alleviate the symptoms of withdrawal from alcohol and to start repairing the damage that drinking has done;
* counselling and therapy to help sufferers to confront their illness and learn to successfully cope with it in future.

Powerful Alcoholism Recovery Movie Part II

One of the toughest times of the day for most Alcoholics is first thing in the morning.  You’ve got your whole day ahead of you - and it can scare the living crap out of you.  When I was drinking, the only thing I thought about was “how early can I start drinking?”.

When I started my recovery, I had a similar question - how in the heck am I going to stay sober through lunch? For months I batteled through the morning holding on to my sobriety by the thinnest thread.

Until, I sat down and wrote out what caused me to want to drink in the morning.  I found out that I was dreading the stress that I was sure to face in the office. The little demons that pestered me with questions about my worth.  I realized that I was so wound up by time I got into the office that I was ripe for a relapse.

So I started to repeat several powerful affirmations to myself for 3 minutes when I arrived at work.  These affirmations centered me, reminded me of who I was - and what I was becoming.  Over time, I started to believe these affirmations - and my mornings became simpler and simpler to work through.

Today, I love the early morning hours.  I am productive, content, and ready to tackle the day’s challenges.  But it all started with a few simple affirmations some three years ago.

That’s why I’m happy to share these affirmations with you in the form of another MindMovie.  Play this movie every single morning for 90 Days.  This will help center you for the day ahead.

I’ve put the movie in the new 90Day Library for your convenience.  You can view and download the movie here

All the Best!

Is National Recovery Month Useless?

Alcoholism Treatnment and National Recovery Month

I’ve been a recovered Alcoholic for 3 years and this month is the first time I’ve ever heard of “National Recovery Month”!

I’m pretty clued into the recovery process - and I’m a little flustered that I never knew about a National Recovery Month. It gets me wondering if somehow the whole addiction recovery process is broken. I mean, if you are struggling with an addiction, why is it so hard to find the resources needed to start the recovery process? A person dragging themselves through each day is not going to have the time or energy to track down solid practical recovery strategies.

Even during National Recovery Month, nothing has changed. No PSA commercials, stepped-up “Say No to Drugs” campaigns in the schools, a new logo on the Google homepage (ok, that is asking too much - but you get the point). Does anyone really care?

What do you think?

Is God the Cure for Alcoholism?

Came across this post on beliefnet.com and it got me thinking. I believe that this author scratches the surface of a huge issue for us alcoholics - What do you think?

Faith, the Spiritual Faculty

Alcoholism is a disease of faith. Alcoholics often develop a cynical attitude toward life, not seeing anything to believe in. When you persistently feel the need to change your consciousness through drugs or booze, you are expressing a lack of trust in life itself. And, in some ways, you are expressing a lack of trust in yourself, in your ability to tolerate life undiluted, to find value in your own, unadulterated experience.

Recovery Mind Movie

I am super excited for you right now.

You see, for the last 48 hours - I’ve been obsessed with the latest comment from BJ.

It simple said - “I need help”. Those words knocked me on my butt with a simple question. What could I possibly offer that would help BJ and other people immediately?

At about 11:30 Saturday night - the answer hit me.

Why don’t I take all of the most powerful affirmations that I’ve used over the years and focus them into a

  • Stunning
  • Powerful
  • Penetrating
  • Memorable

Movie? Now I wish that I could take credit for this myself.  But I can’t.  You see I am a avid practioneer of The Law of Attraction (I call it “Faith” but more on that later).  Over the last couple of years - the Law of Attraction has been popularized by the mini-movie “The Secret” - which has been on Oprah, Ellen, and other popular talk shows.

Aside from all the glitz and star power.  The Secret does speak to a powerful natural law called the Law of Attraction.  Which simply says - Whatever you desire with intense emotional, physical, and mental focus - the Universe will deliver. For the last three year’s I’ve used this law to create the Alcohol Free - Intensely Satisfying Sober life that I am living right now.

It works. Plain and simple.

Now, I’ve found that the best way to visualize desire in a way that get’s the universe moving - is to create a movie filled with strong visual images and sounds, and music.  These movies literally speak to your subconscious and rewire your thoughts for recovery.

And just an hour ago - I finished a custom produced Recovery Mind Movie just for you.

When you get finished, come back here and tell me if this movie moved you -

P.S. If you want to learn how to make these movies for yourself - scoot on over to www.mindmovies.com

“Recovery Discovery #2″

If you attend a group or individual therapy meeting like AA or
Celebrate Recovery then you should never attend a class without
having an index card that has 3 questions:

1. What’s My Purpose for Living Now?
2. What’s My Purpose for Living 24 Hours from Now?
3. What Must I Get From This Meeting To Achieve This Purpose?

Next, be sure you don’t leave that meeting without asking a question that
will get you a step closer to answering these questions.

Hit the comment button up-top and let me know what you’ve learned by asking these questions of yourself and others!
